Do you believe President Obama?
That was the question my grandson asked me this morning as I
drove him to his school. A stunning question from an eight year old.
I responded, “Before I answer that question let me ask, do
you?”
He paused a minute. “Well, he says so many conflicting
things. First he says we spend too much money, they he says we’re going to
spend lots more. That doesn’t make sense.”
My grand son is grappling with one of the sad truths of
today. We don’t expect politicians to tell the truth or keep their promises
today. Often we don’t expect most people to tell the truth or keep their
promises today.
The young man continued: “He’s just saying what he thinks we
want to hear.”
I finally answered his question: “No, I don’t believe
President Obama.”
“Me neither, but let’s keep praying for him, just like the
bible says.”
I smiled. No wonder I love that boy.
